Yuri on Ice Sales - OST

thatshamelessyaoishipper:

Yuri on Ice’s Official Soundtrack or rather, the official songs used during the skating programs have been released in digital and physical forms on the 21st of December, 2016 and we have now received the information on the number of discs sold in the first week.

So, is Oh! SkaTra!!! Yuri!!! on Ice/Original Skate Song Collection selling?

Yes, it is.

And not only that, it is the third best selling CD and first best selling in digital sales in its first week.

Considering that Oricon isn’t an anime-specific sales chart and in fact includes all of Japanese artist’s albums this is really good.

Adding up the units sold in the first week we get the number of 48183 CDs.

Considering that one CD costs 3000-3,240 yen (depending where you buy) this means that the OST has now generated at least 144,549,000 yen revenue.

Which is like $1,231,173 or €1,176,167 or £1,002,003.

Now, I am no expert in CD sales or how much it costs to make an OST (or specifically a skate song collection, featuring not only the composer but also guest artists), but I think it would be fair to assume that they’re making a profit already.

And according to these sources which suggest that soundtrack for an anime would cost about $200,000 and an entire anime would have an average cost of $2,000,000, then these sales look very promising, especially considering that they only account for one week of sales.

Of course, most sales happen in the first week, but the OST will most likely continue to sell, and hopefully sell well.

(And fyi, it is currently the best-selling CD on cdjapan.co.jp and the second best-selling CD on amiami.com, two big sites with anime goods.)

In any case, this is a very good sign.

Because you guys know what high sales and profits for the production team mean, right?

Yep, you guessed it.

It brings us closer to that next level.

I will be back with another sales report once we get the results for the first week of sales for the DVDs/BluRays. Cross your fingers and hope that they sell as well!!
