Clearly people don’t understand how this all works.

So I’m gonna break it down reeeaaalll small so everyone can wrap your head around it.

It’s not.

In Washington, Montana, Minnesota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas, Oklahoma, Hawai’i, Alaska, Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Kentucky, West Virginia, Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine,

The Age of Consent is 16.

In Wyoming, Colorado, New Maxico, Texas, Louisiana, Missouri, Illinois, New York and Connecticut it is 17.

Only in Oregon, California, Idaho, Utah, Arizona, North Dakota, Wisconsin, Tennessee, Virginia and Florida is the age of consent 18.

But wait! What about the other countries?

In Canada, age of consent is 16.

In Mexico, it ranges from 14 to 18.

In central America, it ranges from 14 to 18.

In most of South America, it is 15, but some places go as low as 13. 

In Russia it is 16.

in China it is 14.

In most of Australia, it is 16.

Albania, Andorra, Austria, Bulgaria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Estonia, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Liechtenstein, Macedonia, Montenegro, Portugal, San Marino and Serbia are all at 14.

Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Greece, Iceland, Monaco, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia and Sweden are 15.

Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Belgium, Finland, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Moldova, Netherlands, Northern Cyprus, Norway, Russia, Spain, Switzerland, Ukraine, and the United Kingdom, the age is 16.

In Cyprus and Ireland it’s 17 and only in Malta, Turkey and the Vatican it is 18.

II. BUT WAIT! you cry. WHAT ABOUT THE AGE OF MAJORITY??

The age of majority, by the way, is the age at which you’re no longer, under legal constraints, considered a minor.

Hey guess what. That’s NOT the same thing as age of consent.

Say it with me. Out loud. So you’ll never forget it. Or ever, EVER use it as an argument ever again in your life.

Age of majority is NOT the age of consent.

The Bible states the age to which you’re in full responsibility of your actions is 20. The Vatican says it’s 18. In Judaism, when a boy reaches 13 or a girl 12, they’re considered an adult. (By religion, anyway.)

Also, any argument going “but the gays!!!!” is also futile because in some states that’s absolutely illegal to begin with, and in others you can only have anal sex if one of you’s a woman - otherwise, no MATTER the age, you’re arrested. And some places, you have to be 18. So much for that equality, yeah?

III. BUT PEDOPHILES!!!

Ugh, shut the fuck UP already.

Pedophilia, by the DMS-5 (Big Book of Mental Illness) diagnoses pedophilia as a mental disorder, NOT A FETISH. SAY IT WITH ME. NOT. A. FETISH. 

Just so you can get it through your thick skulls.

Read that again. And again. And, yet, again.

It is a mental illness. Not a fetish. Not a kink. Not a sexual interest. A. Mental. Illness. 

By the way, for the uneducated, pedophilia ONLY qualifies for ages 12 and below. Yes. Just 12 and below. That whole “up to 18″ thing? That’s a whole other area. 

Also.

So shut up about all those people using the daddy/daughter kink. It’s a fucking KINK. It has NO RELATION to pedophilia which is a MENTAL DISORDER and it is TOTALLY POSSIBLE, and even COMMON, for someone who has a daddy/daughter kink to find pedophilia absolutely disgusting.

What you call pedophilia, in this regard, is actually ephebophilia. Ephebophilia is the attraction in those who are pubescent or post-pubescent, usually 15-19. And hey guess what? It’s seen as a preference. Not a mental illness. Holy shit, I know. NOT a mental illness. A preference. Like some people prefer black eyes. 

“YEAH BUT SOME PREFER MINORS—”

Shut the fuck UP. That’s not how it WORKS. 

Fred Berlin (who specializes in sex offenders) states that most men can find people ranging 15-19 sexually attractive, but that “of course, that doesn’t mean they’re going to act on it. Some men who become involved with teenagers may not have a particular disorder. Opportunity and other factors may have contributed to their behaving in the way they do.”

“Ephebophilia is used only to describe the preference for mid-to-late adolescent sexual partners, not the mere presence of some level of sexual attraction. Generally, the preference is not regarded by psychologists as a pathology when it does not interfere with other major areas of one’s life, and is not listed by name as a mental disorder.”

That’s nice, go argue with the professionals then. Some of you do like to think that your take on everything is so much ~better~ and ~morally right~ anyways. 

IV. BUT THE SEX OFFENDERS–

Hey, ever heard of the Romeo and Juliet laws?

They’re basically what says an adult is not actively committing statutory rape on a minor if their ages aren’t wide enough (in Texas, if the minor is over 14, and the other is at the age of consent). Which means little tweety love birds who can’t keep it in their pants before 18 don’t have to be afraid of their lover ending up being grouped in the Sex Offenders who actually DO bad shit, because their lover happened to be 15 while they were 18. 

It happens. You can be disgusted and revolted aaaaallll you like. But it happens. And guess what, people can actually have healthy relationships, and -gasp- even get MARRIED and have KIDS when they both reach of age to marry! 

And if you want to argue that it’s okay if they’re both minors, remember that some states - including California - issue sex between minors as ALSO being illegal. 

V. BUT THE SHIPPERS ARE SO MEAN!!!

Ohhhhh, and you guys are sooooo innocent, right?

Don’t even try to play that game.

And in case you didn’t know, cyberbullying is illegal in all fifty states. Which includes harassment, death threats, doxxing, online stalking, and yes, trolling.

So stop acting like the one in the right, the victim, when clearly you’re also the guilty party.

VI. BUT THE PEOPLE ARE TRIGGERREEEDDD!!!!

I copy their url, go to my settings, click on my blog, scroll down to the bottom, add them to the “Blocked Tumblrs” list, save, and then take the day off.

Stop giving such negative, harmful things so much TIME in your life. If it really is that traumatic for you that it makes you consider suicide, self harm or some other form of violent action, you NEED professional help. 

You have the power to remove the things that trigger you. The world does not exist to correct itself just to make you feel better. You wanna make a safe space, you make one, not ask others to make it for you. 

Also, you shippers and artists out there.

What fucking excuse do YOU have to not tag your shit? Hmm? Because “you don’t care?” You just wanna rub it in their face right? 

And you don’t think that’s not okay aaaatt allll, right? Cause it’s payback, right? Justified cause they do it too, right?
